It took several years but Emily at long last decided that she had it with her husband’s abusive and careless drinking. She was drained from seeing Barry come home late at night from drinking instead of spending quality time with her and their three sons. She was also fed up from the second DUI Barry recently got. Additionally she was tired of creating justifications for Barry when he couldn’t show up for work on time due to his problems with drinking. Not only this but she was nervous about the fact that their relationship was going downhill due to Barry’s abusive and careless drinking. And finally she was fed up from the uncertain financial dilemma into which he had placed his family due to his careless drinking behavior.

When Abusive and Careless Drinking Motivates a Person to do Something Affirmative About an Individual’s Drinking Problem

One Tuesday afternoon when Emily was thinking about what she could do about her husband’s excessive and careless drinking, she got to the point that she simply had to do something positive to cut into the harmful cycle of Barry’s hazardous drinking behavior.

So she looked on the web under “alcohol treatment” and discovered quite a few rehabilitation clinics that were all located less than fifty miles away from where her husband and she lived.

Since she didn’t know anything about these rehabilitation clinics, she decided to call some of them and ask a couple of questions. When she called each rehabilitation clinic she introduced herself and stated that her husband was exhibiting careless and excessive drinking behavior. She also articulated that her husband had a quality health insurance program at his job and that outpatient or inpatient alcohol abuse rehab would be covered if a health care professional in the company health program initiated the rehab.

At one rehabilitation center, Emily was amazed that she was able to communicate directly with a psychologist who asked her to come to the office to describe her husband’s careless drinking behavior in greater detail.

Emily Talks to a Healthcare Professional About Her Husband’s Excessive Drinking

When Emily got to the treatment facility, she filled out some necessary paperwork and then after around ten or fifteen minutes got to see a doctor.

After listening to Emily describe her husband’s abusive and careless drinking, the healthcare practitioner in a supportive but resolute way told Emily how she more likely than not played a major part in her husband’s abusive and excessive drinking through the years by minimizing his drinking behavior rather than letting him suffer the outcomes of his excessive and careless drinking behavior.

Emily Discovers She Has Been Enabling Her Husband’s Hazardous and Irresponsible Drinking

Stated in a slightly different way, the healthcare practitioner stated to Emily that she may have been accidentally enabling Barry’s unhealthy and excessive drinking behavior. The therapist also stressed the fact that although Emily would not be able to control Barry’s actions, with the support and guidance of the rehab team at the treatment clinic she would not only be able to learn how to avoid contributing to Barry’s careless and hazardous drinking but she would also be able to learn how to motivate him to schedule an appointment at the rehabilitation center so that he could discuss his unhealthy and abusive drinking behavior with a psychologist.

Fortunately after Emily explained this to her husband, and he saw that she meant business, Barry told her that he had been very nervous regarding his careless and abusive drinking behavior and that he was very comforted to realize that Emily wanted to do something constructive about his careless and excessive drinking behavior. Consequently, he made an appointment to see a counselor at the local alcohol treatment center.

Barry Agrees to See a Counselor About His Careless and Excessive Drinking

While simply calling a rehab clinic does not guarantee that a person’s excessive and careless drinking behavior will stop or that one’s warning signs of alcoholism or the alcohol abuse signs one displays will simply vanish, making an appointment is unmistakably a necessary factor in the rehabilitation process. And since Barry was serious about getting rehab for his abusive and careless drinking, the probability for a successful recovery was greatly augmented.
